When you create your blog, it gets traffic from just your link which you have posted on difference places like facebook or any other social platform. You can not get much traffic by this method also the engagement time is quite less if you target uninterested audience. So what we can do is to create a list of our pages available on our blog and then put them in a single file then send it to google so it can index the website and crawl over all the data.
To do this job we create a sitemap which is a small file containing all links of our website or blog. We submit it to Google Search Console so it can crawl our blog's web pages and then show our blog in search results. There are two types of sitemap One is HTML and other is XML. In this tutorial we are going to see about xml because it is most easy and used world wide. As I said above we have to get all the links on our website, it will be too difficult to add all the link as the number of links can be hundreds or even thousands. So we have to do is to Just create a simple separate file with XML extension and then submit to google so it can understand our website topic very easily.
XML Sitemap For Blogger
If you own a blog and write daily post but there is not much traffic on your blog, it is because google does not know about your blog or your content. When you will tell the google that you have the right content for search users, your blog or website will rank higher n search results. But you have to do just one thing to do this, create a xml sitemap for blogger or your website.
Why we create xml sitemap?
When we write any article on our blog or website, it takes some time to index in google. Indexing in google means, your website is well known to google engines and google knows what is written on your website and where to show your content. It simply means the google will know about your blog and type of articles and will show your blog or article post when someone searches a thing related to your post.
The Google will show your website to search users and they will click on your website, but its difficult to compete with millions of websites which contain same type of articles. So we create a sitemap for our website which has all URLs of our blog in just one file. You can also create xml sitemap for your blog with the code given bellow.
How to Submit xml sitemap to Google Search Console
Do not change anything in this code, Just Replace[blog-name] with Your Blog URL. And then Click on settings of your blog, scroll down to custom robots.txt and set this code there. After doing this, your sitemap will be generated and linked in your blog. But it is not enough to tell the google about your content. You have to submit your xml sitemap on google search console.
After submitting to blogger, your half work is done. Now we have our xml sitemap which can give all information about our blog to google so we don't have to tell google every time we make a new post. it will update the URLs automatically. Now to submit your sitemap to google you dont have to go anywhere else. Just click on Google Search Console written below the custom robots.txt and it will take you to search console website where you can submit your xml sitemap.
When you will click on Google Search console you will be redirected to other website. But if you want to go manually to the Google Search Console You can CLICK HERE. After going to the search console website you will see your blog name on top left corner, if you dont see your blog name just click on search property on top left corner and select your blog of which you want to submit your sitemap to google.
After Choosing your blog, Now you can see different options in side bar on left side of your Search Console Dashboard. There is an option of sitemaps just click on that option. And you will see your blog URL written on the right side and some empty text space. You have to write your sitemap URL there. See in the image below to clarify the process.
The URL that you pasted in custom robot.txt has to be pasted here also. You can simply skip the part already written there and write the remaining part. Like you can just write this code in sitemap text box after your blog URL.
And one more thing, if your blog is big enough that you have a huge number of posts like 1000 - 5000 then you have to submit some more sitemaps but don't worry its the same process as above. because the 500 written in the sitemap URL specifies the number of posts on your blog so if you have less than 500 posts, your sitemap is enough with just 1 line of code but if your blog has more than 500 posts than you can submit multiple sitemaps.
The numbers in the URL are actually the number of posts on your blog can have. If your blog has about 500 less posts than you are okay with just 1st sitemap URL. No need to submit multiple sitemaps. But if you want complete rid of submitting sitemaps again and again you can write these two sitemap URLs so if your blog will reach 500 posts, you dont have to come back here and then submit.
After submitting your sitemap like this, your sitemap will be approved in a matter of second and you will see a Success message written in front of your sitemap URL. Number of discovered URL are actually number of posts that are currently on your blog and also the URL of your pages. After you have done all this process you can see which pages of your blog are indexed on google or not. Just Click on Settings on left sidebar and you will see an option called Crawl Stats.
By Clicking on OPEN REPORT, you can see much details about your blog like how your blog is appearing in searches. How much data google has downloaded for your blog in indexing. Which pages are more appearing in search and if your blog has some sort of problem in indexing or ranking, you will see that on this page. If you face any issue in submitting your xml sitemap to Google Search Console, just comment below we will try to solve your issue as soon as possible.
